Big day in Broken Hill

A reprieve from driving as we are staying two nights in Silverton. So a big day out in Broken Hill!

We are on the Line of Lode! (Top of the hill overlooking Broken Hill basically).

I didn’t realise but Broken Hill was (and maybe is still) one of the biggest functioning lead-zinc-silver mines in the world. The line of lode is a generic term from ye olde time to refer to the hill-line that signalled a lode of minerals. The Broken Hill lode was so significant that it became THE Line of Lode.

Big red chair on the Line of Lode!
Cute family!
Adults!
Unfortunately quite a few tragic and horrific deaths experienced at the mines over the years.
Combining Broken Hill’s twin passions, art and mining (also historic buildings).
Day 4 in the Battle to Get Lux to Wear Anything Warm (she’s winning).
We stopped in at an artist’s studio/shop on Argent St (Amanda Johnson) and she explained her process and upcoming projects.
This might end up being a tour of the bookshops of Australia. This one only just opened last year.
Big Sky Stories was a not-for-profit children’s bookshop across the road. It had an excellent range, beautiful little reading nooks and a full roster of events.
Yes, we purchased Some Books.
Actually on the bookshop lady’s recommendation we went to the Geode Museum!
Unfortunately very little information or inclusion of the traditional owners of the area, whose Country got heavily mined (and presumably missed out on most of the “untold riches”).
Weathered much.
We did try to go to the Palace Hotel (of Priscilla fame) but it was closed for filming (Royal Flying Doctors this time). Not sure why I had to have a nap for this one.
Poppy tried on some glamour in the gift shop, however.
Back to camp for a crazy sunset!
And us diligently catching up on our blogging!
