Agnes Creek to Alice Springs

We got off to a slow start this morning as we only had to get to Alice Springs, where we were staying in a Big 4 caravan park with a designated site (assuaging the panic you sometimes feel about nabbing a spot and setting up before nightfall). This trip was 376.9km and the kids played a maths card game on the way, playing quick additions and subtractions using the numbers on the cards flipped. Oh and I continued to feel like absolute death. Hats off to Mitch for doing all the packing down, setting up and driving this day! (Even more so than usual).

A stunning sunrise (so I hear anyway, I stayed in bed feeling sorry for myself).
Timelapse set too late to catch the rich reds of the early glow
The upcoming sun rays warming Mitch and his coffee.
And casting Lux in a neon glow.
In case you’ve forgotten, this is Detective Jay Swan. He is treating us very well so far (although the pump is a bit temperamental).

Moment of significance! 🥁

We cross the state border to the Northern Territory! Despite lots of signs reminding us we MUST read the quarantine sign and asking us if we have fruit and vegetables, there was never any quarantine station of any kind.
The first and last pub in the NT, the Kulgera. A few other major roadhouses dot the Stuart Highway up to Alice Springs.
When in the NT… (forgot to pack me sexy bikinis though)
We stopped in at one of the roadhouses, Stuart Wells, and (foolishly) ate some food. The publican was busy fixing his CD jukebox, a game show droned on the TV.
Fattest cockatoo I’ve ever seen. Maybe it likes the food?
Obviously, a Smurf collection.
Note the sign.
Diamond python.

We arrived at the Discovery Park early afternoon. I was feeling so crap by this point I didn’t take any pictures!

We are coming to end of our first fortnight on The Trip. We all still feel like it’s sinking in and that maybe it will feel more real when the school holidays are over, or when we get to Uluṟu, which was always a landmark in the journey (no matter what I put there, it was a pun, sorry). Tomorrow Mitch is taking the car in for repairs and we will (once again) consolidate and hopefully streamline where things are stowed. I hope we get to see a bit of Alice too around the admin!
