A town called Alice

We’ve been lucky with the weather, a big blue sky desert day.

Warm enough for a swim while I lay in the sun, trying to recharge my withered body. I also worked on the itinerary because there is no time for rest on this trip!
Travel 3000km to play on jumping cushions.

Today was a momentous day as on his return from the glass repairers, Mitch was able to reunite Lux with her one true love: sushi. We don’t know how she survived this long! (Side note: Lux is particular with food at the best of times, and this trip has turned up the dial. She is pretty much getting by on Smiths crisps, hot chips and bread crusts 😭)

Everyone mucks in for the campertrailer and car clean up and reorganising!

We spend the afternoon visiting a few art centres.

But first, Vinnies! Can you BELIEVE this is the first op shop we’ve been to?!
Tjanpi Desert Weavers, Oli’s favourite was the koala on the tree. We pretty much wanted everything here.
Iltja Ntjarra Many Hands Art Centre. Loved those trackie pants 😍
They were painting a number of different pieces of clothing for an upcoming Darwin Fashion Show.
The girls liked these beer cans found on country and upcycled into artworks.
Also wanted everything at this gallery!
And Tangentyere Artists, an impressive centre with a decent body of work and merchandise.
Cute ceramics.
Love love this one of rain. (I’m sorry I failed to get the artist credit!)
And Mitch got this tee!

Finally, we stopped in at the Botanic Gardens.

That was a mock ‘happy arms up.’ They were NOT happy about this walk. The sign told us we were climbing Therraletneme, the site of a caterpillar dreaming.
The scenery around Alice Springs is just insanely beautiful.
It is very difficult to capture how vast, ancient, monumental, vivid it all looks. Town centre shimmers in the middle.
A rare shot of the blogger
I should say, this was a tiny walk. Not sure how our kids will fare at Uluṟu 😬
Funnily enough I started reading Tracks by Robyn Davidson today and the first chapter is called ‘Alice Sprung.’ “I arrived in the Alice at five a.m. with a dog, six dollars and a small suitcase full of inappropriate clothes.” Her relationship so far with the town is very love-hate!

Wish I could like all your pics and blogs. If walking around Uluru is too much for little legs, I believe you can bike around it.
